Twins Alba and Līvija (12) are raised by their grandfather, art historian Pēteris (70). At an art exhibition of Old Masters’ mirror-themed paintings at the National Museum, Alba—who loves to draw—discovers she can communicate with characters in the artworks. Pēteris notices something strange about Jan van Eyck’s “Arnolfini Portrait” but suddenly falls ill. Hoping to help him, the twins and their friend Rihards (12) try to uncover the painting’s secret. Alba enters the artwork, where a ghostly figure—Janus, the two-faced Roman god—seeks to escape a 600-year prison inside the mirror. With help from the museum’s director, Janus plans to create a world where he and select painted figures are free, while the rest of reality is trapped in a mirror. Unknowingly, Alba’s creative spirit is key to this plan. Only by joining forces—Alba, Līvija, Rihards, and a few lucky coincidences—can they stop Janus and save the world from its seemingly inevitable fate.
