Lab OLD draft
Young Horizons Lab, script development programme
The programme focuses on script development of live-action and animation films and series. Within the programme, we aim to work on the projects which are at different stages of development (the concept of the story, early development, more advanced development).
Young Horizons Lab (Polish name: Młode Horyzonty Lab; formerly known as Kids Kino Lab) was created to support emerging storytellers who are taking first steps in the field of professional scriptwriting as well as experienced writers.
During six months and three on-site sessions, the programme’s participants supported by the tutor Philip LaZebnik develop and work on the best structure of their projects. Emphasis is put on group work, individual consultations with tutor, and individual work of the participants between the sessions. Besides the on-site sessions, participants take part in online consultations with Philip LaZebnik (between each session).
The programme is conducted in English.
The 9th edition of Young Horizons Lab (2023/2024) was co-organised by Young Horizons, a part of the New Horizons Association and Creative Europe Desk Poland. Co-financed by Polish Film Institute. In partnership with the Mazovia Institute of Culture and Mazovia Warsaw Film Commission. Read more about the last session
The call for projects for the 10th Young Horizons Lab script development workshop will open soon. Follow our website for the updates.

Tutor
Philip is a screenwriter, playwright and a screenwriting consultant. Originally associated with Disney Studios and Dream Works. His screenwriting credits include “Mulan” and “Pocahontas” for Disney, and “The Prince of Egypt” and “The Road to El Dorado” for DreamWorks, among many others.
He has written the book for the theatrical musical “The Prince of Egypt” with songs by Stephen Schwartz, which opened at the Dominion Theatre in London’s West End in February, 2020.
Philip has considerable experience in film teaching: Polish Film School (Lodz, Poland), Bridging the Dragon (Mentor, China), North by Northwest (Tutor, Bornholm), Animationhus (Workshop, Viborg) and worked as a Film/Story Consultant for: “Antz” and “Shrek” (Story consultant, DreamWorks Feature Animation and PDI), “Lion King 1 ½” and “Mulan II” (Disney Television Animation), and numerous other films.
Philip’s goal is to foster a positive, supportive environment in the room, where we can discuss the screenwriting tools which are useful not only for developing the project in the workshop but also future scripts. These tools include analyzing story structure, understanding character motivations, and knowing what questions to ask when writing a script.
