Ghetto Classic
In a Kenyan slum, a young dancer faces a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reshape his destiny.
Korogocho, a gang-ridden slum bordering a toxic garbage dump on the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya. In the centre of this no-go zone is a ramshackle studio where 15-year-old James Muindi attends rigorous ballet classes taught by former Polish ballerina, Joanna.
Against all odds, James receives a scholarship for a four-week summer intensive in the US. The real test begins. Being seen by the world class faculty from the most prestigious US institutions is James’ once-in-a-lifetime chance to touch his dream. However, the preparations for ‘the Olympics of his life’ are under constant threat: a broken family, a bribe-hungry bureaucracy, and unimaginable poverty.
Facing the challenges, James and Joanna refuse to give up. Instead, the duo does what is within their power: dance.
