Lab rules for submission
Call for projects is closed – THANK YOU FOR YOUR APLICATIONS!
Develop your project at Young Horizons Lab under the guidance of Philip LaZebnik.
The submission form was open between 8 August and 5 September 2024, 17:00 CEST.
Programme is open for submissions from Poland. All submitted materials need to be in English. Regulations and detailed information below.
About the programme
Young Horizons Lab (Polish name: Młode Horyzonty Lab) was created to support emerging storytellers who are taking first steps in the field of professional scriptwriting as well as experienced writers.
The six-month programme focuses on script development of live-action and animation films and series at different stages of development. Together with our tutor Philip LaZebnik you will work on your project during three on-site sessions (group work) and individual consultations with Philip (between each session).
Our aim is to help you develop your concept or treatment into first or second draft of the script depending on the stage you enter the workshops.
The programme is conducted in English.
The Young Horizons Lab (2024/2025) is co-organised by Young Horizons, a part of the New Horizons Association and Creative Europe Desk Poland. The programme is co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.

Meet our tutor
Philip is a screenwriter, playwright and a screenwriting consultant. Originally associated with Disney Studios and Dream Works. His screenwriting credits include “Mulan” and “Pocahontas” for Disney, and “The Prince of Egypt” and “The Road to El Dorado” for DreamWorks, among many others.
He has written the book for the theatrical musical “The Prince of Egypt” with songs by Stephen Schwartz, which opened at the Dominion Theatre in London’s West End in February, 2020.
Philip has considerable experience in film teaching: Polish Film School (Lodz, Poland), Bridging the Dragon (Mentor, China), North by Northwest (Tutor, Bornholm), Animationhus (Workshop, Viborg) and worked as a Film/Story Consultant for: “Antz” and “Shrek” (Story consultant, DreamWorks Feature Animation and PDI), “Lion King 1 ½” and “Mulan II” (Disney Television Animation), and numerous other films.
Philip’s goal is to foster a positive, supportive environment in the room, where we can discuss the screenwriting tools which are useful not only for developing the project in the workshop but also future scripts. These tools include analyzing story structure, understanding character motivations, and knowing what questions to ask when writing a script.
Aleksandra is a talent manager for filmmakers, script consultant, and development advisor. A graduate of the Film School in Katowice and the Wajda School, she has completed courses and workshops for producers (Midpoint Feature Launch), as well as workshops for script consultants (MFI Script 2 Film, Script Atelier). She is also a graduate of Gender Studies at the Institute of Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IBL PAN).
In her approach to script development, the most important aspect for her is always discovering the protagonist’s truth and how it resonates with the contemporary world, which we are now learning to describe anew.
