Higher Pitch

“Higher Pitch” is a coming-of-age tale set in a fictional rural Irish town where sport is more than a pastime — it’s a way of life. 14yo Neasa, under pressure from her mother to follow in her footsteps and play rugby, is torn between the pitch and her passion for music. As she begins to play her own tune, she challenges the path laid out for her, risking a clash with her mother’s expectations — and the heartbeat of her community.
“Higher Pitch” is set in a fictional, rural town on the coast of Ireland called Ballylough where everyone knows everything and everyone. It is steeped in sporting tradition with generations of families following the same pattern: Grow up, playing rugby, get married, have kids, repeat. In episode one we get thrown straight into Neasa’s world. Her controlling, overbearing mother, her supportive best friend (Aimée), her mischievious twin sisters. Most importantly we meet Clara, Aimée’s sister, who is everything Neasa wants to be. Even if she doesn’t realise it yet. Clara is a musician who spends her time composing, singing, and paying no heed to anyone else’s opinion. Although Neasa’s life revolves around rugby, her interest in music is sparked upon Clara’s return to Ballylough. Neasa starts to wonder about life beyond the oval shaped ball, much to her mother’s dismay. Neasa goes on a journey to find herself and her desires and discovers some old family truths on her way.
