Close-Up Talk 1: The Mechanisms That Make Stories Work In TV & Streaming

To take part in this session you need to be registered. Registration is open on the platform for accredited guests.

What makes a story truly resonate with Generation Alpha—today’s youngest viewers who are growing up as digital natives?

This interactive session explores the mechanisms behind successful storytelling in an age of endless content, rapid platform shifts, and increasingly sophisticated audience behaviour. Host Geert Torfs will deepen the discussion on trend-driven content development and transmedia strategies with leading industry voices.

We will take a deep dive into content that actually worked from our guests and discuss other formats, such as Cocomelon and Bluey, that succeed despite—or because of—their simplicity.

Individual focus guests:

  • Diego Ibáñez Belaustegui, Chief Brand Officer at DeAPlaneta, will showcase the company’s strategies for navigating an increasingly unstable market—creating original, game-driven IPs from scratch, adapting to shifting consumer habits, and building lasting engagement with both preschool and teen audiences. He will present how DeAPlaneta develops IPs in reverse—starting with games and apps before scaling to series and merchandise—and share case studies like "Mia & Codie," which blends fun with educational value. Diego will also explore the critical role of fandom and how regulatory shifts may shape future content strategies.
  • Juliet Tzabar, Studio Head of Brighton Zoo, brings a wealth of experience in platform-agnostic IP. She’ll take us behind the scenes of how multi-platform thinking—starting from the concept phase—can lead to real audience growth and sustainability, even in an unpredictable market.

Join us to challenge assumptions, share insights, and ask the hard questions about quality, ethics, and the future of storytelling for kids.
