GIGA MAKES A SEA

1990s, former Yugoslavia. A young boy, Giga (9), decides to build a sea as a birthday gift for his friend Cricket (10). No one believes him, but he refuses to give up. Meanwhile, war draws near…
In the 1990s, in a country on the brink of collapse, ten-year-old Cricket (a boy) celebrates his birthday. He doesn’t invite Giga, a boy known for his wild imagination and tall tales. Offended, Giga promises him the impossible—a sea. Cricket doesn’t believe him, but agrees to a bet. The next day, the impossible becomes real: sand, shells, dolphins, beaches. Cricket, Giga, and a new friend, Ball (a girl), embark on a magical summer of play, sorrow, and discovery. Through the sea, Cricket comes to understand why his father is a hero; Giga learns what it means to lose a mother; and Ball brings tenderness and a spark of new curiosity. When Ball vanishes without saying goodbye, the boys write their own rules: no one is allowed to leave without a farewell. But the world is falling apart. In a war they cannot understand, their sea burns. Giga and Cricket are torn apart. In a refugee camp, someone asks Cricket what he wants to be when he grows up. He answers: “Someone who makes the sea.”
